Welcome to the Media Center!
At the heart of Brookwood Middle School, right in the very center, lies the Media Center, a place where students can go to check out books, read magazines, conduct research, and access technology resources. A place where teachers can go for instructional support, collaboration, and materials to supplement their curriculum.
It's a very BUSY place. One that promotes reading for information and for pleasure, finding the very information students need, and acquiring necessary information literacy skills that all students should possess.
Our committment is to provide services and resources to the students, teachers, and administration at Brookwood Middle. Resources include over 9,000 books, 25 student and professional periodicals, and one newspaper, not to mention the numerous online resources and periodicals available for use.
We are continuing to work hard to acquire more materials and resources, and we have made great strides since our new school opened in 2002. We would like to thank the many individuals and businesses who have donated items to our library or who have given financial assistance to purchase new items. Your support is crucial in our efforts to provide a Library Media Center program for all of our school to enjoy!

The Library Media Center supports the Alabama State Course of Study, the basis of our school curriculum program and its publication "Alabama's Library Media Handbook for the 21st Century Learner" as well as "Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs," published by the American Association of School Librarians and the American Library Association. In addition, the Library Media Center endorses the literacy principles of the 2008 Standards of the 21st Century Learner of the American Association of School Librarians.
The Library Media Center provides open access for all students. The LMC uses Destiny, a Follett software product as its automated management system. Destiny provides Title Peek, which gives patrons a chance to preview books online, as well as One Search, which lets students get information from the school library and the Internet as a whole with a single search. Another advantage is WebPath Express, which limits student searches to approved, grade appropriate websites. Destiny is available to teachers and students at school and at home via Internet access.
