The Tuscaloosa County School System makes every effort to communicate with employees and parents during times of severe weather or other emergencies.
The system uses several resources, including the School Messenger Parent Notification System along with School System Facebook, Twitter and Main Web Pages to inform parents and employees of weather related events, school closings, delayed openings, or early dismissals.
School Closings, Delayed Openings, and Early Dismissals
Along with maintaining our instructional program, student safety remains as our greatest concern. In times of threatening conditions due to severe weather or other emergencies, the Tuscaloosa County School System (TCSS) makes every effort to communicate with employees and parents in a timely and concise manner.
In the event of such emergencies, the TCSS has developed a plan to allow for both a delayed opening or early dismissal of schools, as well as school closings. If such action is required, the time for the closing, opening or dismissal of schools will be announced through all normal media outlets, the TCSS website, and parent notification system.
For delayed openings, bus transportation schedules will be adjusted and breakfast will be offered upon students' arrival to school. Schools will follow their regular afternoon dismissal plan. If absences are related due to severe weather, please contact your local school administrators.
In the case of school closings, make-up days will be announced by the school system as soon as possible.
The Emergency Response Team provides system administrators with pertinent information as situations arise.
