The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is an honorary organization which is extended to students by invitation only.  The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage good citizenship in the students of Hillcrest Middle School.

Membership in this chapter is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.

The invitations for membership are given at the end of the 7th grade year to students who have not only maintained an "A" average but have also been recommended by all of their teachers.  These qualifications are given to the faculty council to determine consideration for selection.  Any student with either a detention or suspension is automatically withdrawn from consideration.

Candidates become members when inducted at a special ceremony.  This ceremony is typically held in  April.

A NJHS member who transfers to Hillcrest Middle School and brings a letter from the principal or chapter adviser shall be accepted automatically as a member in our school's chapter. Transfer members must meet the  chapter's standards within one semester in order to maintain membership.
