    Get Ready to Celebrate

    Red Ribbon Week!

Walker Elementary School is excited about Red Ribbon Week. From October 24th to October 28th we will be celebrate our commitment to staying drug free. Be on the lookout for more information. And remember, leaders don’t do drugs!

    Think Pink!

That’s right, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Take the time to honor a friend or a loved one who has been affected by breast cancer. Donate your time, kindness, or resources when you can. The smallest help today can inspire hope for tomorrow. Author Maya Angelou says it best, “When you do nothing, you feel overwhelmed and powerless. But when you get involved, you feel the sense of hope and accomplishment that comes from knowing you are working to make things better. ”

    Good Habit Focus: Be Proactive

You make your own choices. Part of being proactive is taking charge of yourself. You  have parents, teachers, and others that have expectations and rules for you. However, you are in charge of your choices. Be proactive by making good choices for yourself. Choose wisely and you will be on your way to becoming the leader  you were meant to be. Some choices are easy and some choices are hard, but good choices always pay off in the end.

Encourage your child to keep a journal. Designate a notebook for each child. Have him/her use these notebooks for journal entries only. Start by just writing or drawing about their day. Students  will gain valuable practice and journals could even become treasured keepsakes.
