Welcome back from Nurse Wright! I have missed all of you and I can’t wait to meet all the new faces at Flatwoods this year! Although the 2020-2021 school year may look a little different from what we are used to, I am looking forward to a great year! To ensure your child’s health and safety, there are a few changes I would like to share with you:
MEDICATIONS: Visitors in the school will be limited, so you will not be able to bring medications to the nurse’s office. I will be at the school Wednesday August 19th from 9-12 to receive medications. Please come to the front and ring the bell and let them know you are bringing medication for the nurse and I will meet you outside to sign it in. Prescription medications must have A STATE REQUIRED PRESCRIBER/PARENT AUTHORIZATION FORM completed and signed by the parent or guardian and signed by the doctor prescribing the medication. School Medication Authorization forms can be printed off the Tuscaloosa County School website at www.tcss.net. Any medications, including cough drops, must be brought to the nurse and signed in by a parent. DO NOT SEND MEDICATIONS TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD.
HEALTH CONCERNS: Please inform the school nurse and your child’s teacher of any severe allergies, surgeries, accidents or new health problems that occurred during the summer months or that may occur during the school year.
ILLNESS: We encourage you to check your child’s temperature daily before sending them to school. Please keep your child home if they have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher or have any COVID-19 symptoms including: headache, sore throat, cough, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, and diarrhea.
**If you are called to get your child due to sickness, please have someone available to pick them up IMMEDIATELY. Please update your phone number and emergency contact numbers in the office so that we can reach you. If a student shows any symptoms of COVID-19 while at school, they will be directed to our new isolation room located inside the nurse’s office to wait for pick-up. Please come to the front of the school and let our office staff know you are picking up your child. You will then be directed to pull forward to the flag pole and your child will come out and meet you there.
MASKS & FACE COVERINGS: Under the health order, employees and students seven and older are required to wear masks. We also encourage students six and under to wear masks if possible.
Please talk to your child and encourage them to:
-Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
-Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
-Avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth.
-Cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
We are going to do everything we can to have a safe and healthy school year!
If I can be of any help throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to call. ~ Nurse Wright
