HIV/AIDS Lesson
We have received numerous phone calls and emails regarding the HIV/AIDS lesson for 5th and 6th graders as well as the "Growing UP" lessons that our 5th graders will receive in May. We believe it is important for parents to have all the information regarding these lessons in order to make an informed decision about whether to allow their child to participate.
Below are posted the links to the "Growing Up" videos that will be shown to our 5th grade students. The boys and girls will be separated and shown the appropriate video. In addition, we have also placed a copy of the materials used to teach the lesson on HIV/AIDS for 5th and 6th graders in our front office. Please feel free to stop by the school during regular school business hours (8am-2:30pm) and review this information.
We respect every parent's right to make informed decisions regarding their child learning about these topics. We understand that some parents may choose to address these topics privately, at home with their child. We also feel it is important that we are open and honest with parents about exactly what information their child will receive.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mr. Tilford. If you DO NOT want your child to participate in one or both of these lessons, please send a note or email to BOTH their classroom teacher and Nurse Bishop.
