"Words are things, and a small drop of ink, / Falling like dew, upon a thought, produces / That which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think." - Lord Byron
I am passionate about language-- its uses (and abuses) drive society and subtly shift culture every single day. It is my sincere hope that my students will inherit my love of language and learn how to wield it in an intentional, powerful, and society-benefiting way.
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I've been teaching High School English since 2011, beginning at Hillcrest High School, where I taught AP Language and Pre-AP English 9. In the Fall of 2018, I began my tenure at Northside High School, teaching 10th grade English and sponsoring the Rambler yearbook. Each day, I endeavor to bring passion and knowledge to my classroom, always putting forth my best effort in my teaching. I expect the same level of effort from my students.
I grew up in Northport, attended Tuscaloosa County High, and received my Bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama. After graduating, I married Jennifer Henry, and we moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, so that I could attend seminary. We moved on August 1, 2005; Hurricane Katrina blew through town on August 29, 2005, sending Jennifer and I back home to Northport. Through a divine and providential series of events, I went back to the University of Montevallo to pursue my Master's Degree in Education and began my teaching career.
Jennifer and I have two daughters, Nora and Lila. Nora attends Northside Middle, and Lila attends Walker Elementary.
My family couldn't be happier to be a part of the Northside community!
