Meeting in regular session on Monday, November 18, 2019, the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education approved the academic calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. Parent and employee surveys conducted over the past few years have guided the development of our school system calendar. Results continue to reflect the following views.

• Later start date in August with all students and employees completing the year before Memorial Day.
• Week for Thanksgiving holidays.
• Two weeks for Christmas holidays.

The calendar does coordinate spring break with the Tuscaloosa City Schools and the University of Alabama. While some wish for a later spring break, the coordination of dates is important for many of our families and also allows students to return and regain the normal schedule before spring testing begins in early April.

Essentially, the calendar dates for this current year were applied to the 2020-2021 school year. When planning was conducted last year, the intent was to develop a calendar plan for a two year period. Next fall, calendar dates will be reviewed for another two year period.
