Honors for TCHS Wind Ensemble
-
January 17, 2020
Congratulations to the Tuscaloosa County High School Wind Ensemble! The Wind Ensemble, which is made up of 60 students in grades 9 through 12, is the top performing ensemble in the TCHS marching band. The Wind Ensemble has been selected to perform at both the Alabama Music Educators Association Conference and Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Festival. In addition, the Wind Ensemble has been honored by The Foundation for Music Education Mark of Excellence project.
The Wind Ensemble will perform at the Alabama Music Educators Association conference in Montgomery on Friday, January 17. TCHS is one of six bands across Alabama selected for this honor. Distinguished music educators make the selections through recordings submitted from middle, high school, and college bands across the state.
In March, the Wind Ensemble will perform at the Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Festival at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Only seven bands from across the Southeast were selected for the performance. TCHS is the only school from Alabama selected to participate. The audience at the festival will include a panel of accomplished wind band conductors. After the performance, the students will get an opportunity to work one-on-one with the conductors.
The Mark of Excellence project recognizes outstanding achievement by high school and middle school bands, choirs, and orchestras from across the nation. Not only is it an opportunity for the schools to receive recognition, but they also receive feedback and critiques of their performances.
Mr. Michael Guzman serves as Director of Bands at Tuscaloosa County High School. Ms. Emily Gray serves as Associate Director of Bands at Tuscaloosa County High School. Congratulations to the students, teachers, families, and all who have worked to make these outstanding achievements possible!
