Plans for 2020 TCSS High School Graduation Ceremonies

  •

    May 29, 2020

Celebrating the achievements of the Class of 2020 is very important to our school system. TCSS has developed a plan to hold graduation ceremonies later this summer, as long as that is possible under state health guidelines at that time. The decision as to whether or not to hold graduation ceremonies this summer will be based fully on guidance from the Alabama Department of Public Health.

Students participating in graduation ceremonies is not a requirement, but certainly an important recognition. Students who are unable to return for graduation ceremonies delayed until this summer will not be negatively impacted in any way.

    Option A: June Graduation Ceremonies

    • Plans now are for graduation ceremonies to be held in June 2020.

    • A final decision for June graduation ceremonies will be made no later than Tuesday, June 9.

    Option B: July Graduation Ceremonies

    • If we are unable to hold graduation ceremonies in June, our next attempt will be for graduation ceremonies to be held in July 2020.

    • A final decision for July graduation ceremonies will be made no later than Wednesday, July 1.

General Guidelines for Options A and B

    • All ceremonies will be held on the school campus of the respective high school.

    • All ceremonies will begin at 7:30 p.m.

    • Due to the cost and continuing uncertainty of our ability to hold ceremonies, seniors will be allowed to participate by wearing the traditional caps and gowns, or they may participate by wearing professional dress (specific criteria to be provided by each school). Blue jeans and/or shorts will not be allowed.

    • Seniors and families need to be aware that a ceremony may have to be held in a school gymnasium. If so, each school will let seniors know how many tickets each senior will be able to obtain for their family, based upon the capacity of the gym.

    • Graduation ceremony practices will be held on the morning of the scheduled ceremony. Seniors are required to participate in graduation ceremony practice in order to be able to walk.
