At the May 11 Board of Education meeting, the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education approved a new academic calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Alabama State Superintendent of Education Dr. Eric Mackey requested all school systems to revise their 2020-2021 academic calendar to provide for a student return date no earlier than August 20. The new calendar is in response to that request, and replaces the previously Board-approved calendar for the upcoming school year.
