Preparing for Our Return to School in August

  • June 16, 2020

    To Our TCSS Community,

I hope our TCSS families are having an enjoyable and safe summer break, even with the challenges we continue to experience from the COVID-19 pandemic.

I wanted to briefly share with you where our school district stands, as we plan for our return to school in August.

Next week, we expect to learn more from Alabama State Superintendent of Education Dr. Eric Mackey, on the specifics of Alabama’s Roadmap for Reopening Schools. Leaders at the state level are currently working to finalize that plan, before presenting it to local superintendents of education.

Once TCSS receives the state’s Roadmap for Reopening Schools, we will be able to finalize and share our detailed plan with families, specific to our district’s reopening of schools in August. We expect to share this plan in the first part of July; however, setting a specific date is difficult until we know more specifics from the State Department. Receiving detailed guidance from the State is a critical piece in the completion of our district plan.

We thank our entire TCSS community for your patience as we work through the many questions that have to be answered, and scenarios that must be explored, as we navigate through this time. While we do face some challenges, I am confident we will come out of this situation stronger, with new ideas and ways to prepare our students for a bright future. Our TCSS leaders, including Dr. Keri Johnson, who will become Superintendent July 1, are hard at work, as we prepare for a successful start to the new school year.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Walter Davie

    Superintendent
