TCHS Wind Ensemble Receives National Recognition

  • September 22, 2020

Congratulations to the Tuscaloosa County High School Wind Ensemble for being selected as a National Winner in the 2020 Mark of Excellence/National Wind Band Honors Project.

The Mark of Excellence project recognizes outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school bands, choirs and orchestras. This year, 145 of the finest musical ensembles in the nation were part of the competition. The competition is conducted through recordings, critiqued by nationally renowned adjudicators.

The top 25 percent of entrants are recognized as National Winners, with the second 25 percent named as Commended Winners.

“This year’s entries were amazing, with many stunning performances,” The Mark of Excellence Managing Director Rick Yancey said.

“These young students perform incredibly well, and that is a testament to their talent, training, and wonderful teachers!”

The 2020 TCHS Wind Ensemble was directed by Mr. Mike Guzman. Under the direction of Mr. Guzman, and Associate Director of Bands Ms. Emily Gray, TCHS Bands were recognized with numerous honors. Mr. Guzman recently moved on to a new opportunity, but TCHS Bands will continue their tradition of excellence under new Director of Bands Mr. Nick McDonald and Associate Director of Bands Ms. Gray.

TCSS is proud of the hard work of these talented young musicians and for representing our local schools and community so well at a national level!
