Provide Feedback on Proposed 2021-2022 TCSS Academic Calendar

  • November 30, 2020

We invite our TCSS families and faculty/staff members to provide feedback on a proposed Academic Calendar for the 2021-2022 school year. The survey will close on Friday, December 4, at 4:30 p.m.

The proposed 2021-2022 TCSS Academic Calendar was influenced by parent/guardian and faculty/staff survey data collected over the past few years. Consistent priorities identified in these surveys have been:

    • A later start date in August, with all students and employees completing the year before Memorial Day.
    • A full week for Thanksgiving Break.
    • Two weeks for Winter Break.

By Alabama law, school systems must complete a minimum of 1,080 hours, or 64,800 minutes, of instructional time during an academic year. The start and end dates for school may be adjusted, but we must meet this minimum number of instructional minutes. Therefore, the later we start school, the fewer holidays we can take during the year, or school will have to extend beyond Memorial Day. Visit this page for more guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions regarding academic calendar planning.

The proposed calendar does coordinate Spring Break with The University of Alabama. The coordination of dates is important for many of our families. The timing also allows students to return and regain their normal schedule before Spring testing begins in early April.

Please view the proposed calendar, then take the survey to provide your feedback. The survey will close on Friday, December 4, at 4:30 p.m.
