Meeting in regular session on Monday, December 7, the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education approved the TCSS 2021-2022 Academic Calendar. Parent and employee surveys conducted over the past few years have guided the development of our school system calendar.

The approved calendar is the same as the proposed calendar that was presented for public input prior to the meeting, except for one change. The proposed calendar listed October 11 and 12 as Professional Development Days. The approved calendar lists October 11 as a Teacher Work Day and October 12 as a Professional Development Day. The majority of public comments were in support of the proposed calendar.

The calendar does coordinate Spring Break with The University of Alabama. The coordination of dates is important for many of our families. Spring Break in March also allows students to return to their regular schedule before Spring testing begins in early April.

The TCSS 2021-2022 Academic Calendar is based on the same template as the academic calendars from the previous two years. This template was created by a group of TCSS faculty and staff members, using survey data from TCSS families and faculty/staff. The group created two calendar options, and the one that received the highest number of votes from families and faculty/staff was chosen as the calendar template.
