Tuscaloosa County Board of Education Member, District 7
December 18, 2020
The Tuscaloosa County Board of Education (TCBOE) announces opening of the application period for candidates seeking to fill the vacant office of County Board of Education Member, District 7. The seat is vacant following the passing of District 7 Board Member Mr. Bill Copeland. The application period is now open and will close Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Noon. The County Board is the appointing authority to fill the remainder of the current term, which runs through November 2024.
Schools in District 7 are Brookwood Elementary, Brookwood High, Brookwood Middle, Cottondale Elementary, Davis-Emerson Middle, Holt High, Lake View Elementary, and Vance Elementary.
There are several legal requirements for serving on the Board of Education:
The individual must be a registered voter in TCBOE District 7, have resided in the district for one year or more by the date of the appointment, and continue to reside there throughout the term of office. Interested parties may view a copy of the TCBOE District 7 map on the Tuscaloosa County School System web site.
The individual must not be employed by the Tuscaloosa County School System.
The individual must be of good moral character.
The individual must have at least a high school education.
The individual is not serving on the governing board of a private elementary or secondary
educational institution.The individual is not on the National Sex Offender Registry or the state offender registry.
The individual has not been convicted of a felony.
The individual must have no direct or indirect financial or contractual interest in Tuscaloosa
County Board of Education business matters.To be considered, applicants must submit an application packet that includes a personal data sheet, a statement of reasons and qualifications for seeking the nomination, and a detailed resume of work experience, public service history, civic contributions in the community of District 7, and prior supportive public education activities.
Applicants are required to email their completed application packet to Mr. Ray Ward, Attorney for the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education, no later than Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Noon. Applicants are advised to carefully address all components as requested.
