Hello! My name is Julie McKinnon. I am very excited to be teaching 3rd grade this year! The wonderful experiences that I had at Vance Elementary as a student inspired me to become a teacher. I am from Coaling, Alabama, and after attending Vance, went on to graduate from Brookwood High School in 2004.
I am an alumnus of the University of Alabama, where I earned an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education (2008), and graduate degrees in Gifted and Talented Special Education (MA: 2010 and Ed.S.: 2014). Most recently, I attended Samford University earning a certification in Educational Leadership/Administration in 2015. I am a lifelong learner, and love teaching children to be also.
I believe that elementary school plays an important part in making a learning a positive experience for children. These formative years should be a time for the exploration of knowledge and celebration of learning. Encouraging children on this journey and helping them grow into independent thinkers is my daily goal.
In May of 2014, my family grew! My husband and I welcomed Caleb McKinnon into the world. I enjoy spending time with my family, shopping for antiques, doing renovations, and learning new things. In my spare time, I can be found sitting on the on the porch with a good book!
I look forward to getting to know you and your child over the course of the school year.
