Dr. Daniel Bray Selected as Next Superintendent of Tuscaloosa County School System

The Tuscaloosa County Board of Education has selected Dr. Daniel Bray as the next Superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County School System. 

Dr. Bray has served as TCSS Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction since 2021.

Dr. Bray’s appointment to the position of Superintendent is effective Friday, November 21.

TCSS Rises One Point on State Report Card, Posts Highest-Ever Grad Rate

TCSS has earned a system-level grade of B on this year’s Alabama State Education Report, up one point over last year and up five points over the past two years.

Over half of our schools gained points on their overall school scores, several moving up a letter grade. No schools dropped in their letter grade score.

For the second year in a row, TCSS posted its highest-ever graduation rate, with 92.44 percent of students graduating within four years of entering high school.

Superintendent Position Announcement

The Tuscaloosa County School System is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Superintendent. Candidates must be committed to student achievement and building on the current educational foundation and accomplishments achieved and established over the past several years.

Deadline for receipt of applications is 5 pm CST on October 14, 2025.

Message for Our Community on Upcoming Search for Next Superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County School System

After five years serving as Superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County School System, Dr. Keri Johnson is stepping down to pursue another opportunity.

Upon learning of Dr. Johnson’s upcoming departure, Tuscaloosa County Board of Education President Bill Squires expressed his gratitude to Dr. Johnson for her service. He also said information will be shared as soon as possible, regarding a search for the next Superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County School System.
