I hold B.S. and Masters degrees in Elementary Education. From the University of Alabama I received my certification as a Reading Specialist for grades K-12. Experience I have been an educator since 1977.  I owned, directed, and taught 4 year old pre-school when my children were smaller.  In 1986, as they became school age, I took them with me when I went to teach in a private K-12 school in Orangeburg County, South Carolina.  During those years, I taught- 5th grade self contained, 2nd through 6th grades Reading, 7th through 10th grades Literature/English, 10th grade Biology, 9th grade U.S. History, 10th grade World History, 9th grade Economics and Government, 9th grade Physical Science, 8th grade Geography, 7th grade South Carolina History, was the coordinator of Special Education services and was the Summer school Director for four years. In 1991, I started teaching in public school at Robert E. Howard Middle School in Orangeburg, SC.  I taught the Chapter One classes for grades 5-8, served as an Extension teacher (a new program in the district) which provided enrichment in math and literacy to all students in grades 5 and 6. I taught S.C. History  to 8th graders and Language Arts to 7th graders. In 1995, I moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was fortunate enough to be hired at Central Elementary Magnet Program in Tuscaloosa City.  I taught a multi-age class of 2nd and 3rd graders for a year, a multi-age group of 4th and 5th graders for two years, and then for the next six years I looped every year with groups of 4th and 5th graders. After receiving my Reading Certification from The University of Alabama in 2002, I became a Reading Coach in the Tuscaloosa City School System, then in the Tuscaloosa County School System. I have been an adjunct professor at The University of Alabama teaching literacy courses to Special Education majors and have served as a National Geographical Society presenter and Alabama Reading Initiative Presenter across the state for several years. Since I have been at Brookwood, I have served as a third grade teacher for three years, a Reading Coach for two years, and for the past four years i've been the Reading Intervention teacher. This past year, I have also been the Math Intervention teacher. Bio I've been fortunate to live in several states in my life time.  I was born in Baltimore, Maryland, lived in Columbia, South Carolina for several years, attended high school in Toccoa, Georgia, married in San Diego, California, raised our family in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and now have settled in Northport, Alabama.  We love it here! My husband of 47 years and I have four adult sons and five beautiful grandchildren: Blaine age 20, Savannah and Kylar both age 16, Luke age 11, and Lila age 8. As of August 2017, we have added Paisley, our first great granddaughter. They keep us young! My greatest love is my family, followed by traveling.  We travel with the grandchildren and children every chance we get.  We love to go on cruises with them. We've been to The Bahamas, Bermuda, and Mexico. In the states we have traveled as a family  to , Gulf Shores, Alabama;  Atlanta, Georgia, Branson, Missouri; Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; Key West, Ft. Walton, and Orlando, Florida; Galveston, Texas, South Carolina, and NOLA. These have been memory making vacations and I hope to have many more with my wonderful family.  Going out with my friends, traveling, shopping, watching Alabama football games, researching on the computer, and of course, reading are a few of my other passions.
