I am a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and was a member of the symphonic and marching bands. I graduated from The University of Alabama in 1980 with a B.S. in marketing. After my children were in school, I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from The University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1994 and a M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama in 2004.
I began my adult experience in elementary school as a parent volunteer at Cottondale Elementary. I soon began substituting and was encouraged by the teachers to return to college to become a teacher. Their support and enthusiasm jump-started my career as a teacher. After graduating from UAB, I did an extended leave for two teachers at Brookwood Elementary, worked as an aide with kindergarten at Maxwell Elementary, was the In-School-Intervention teacher at Cottondale Elementary, and finally, was hired as a fourth grade teacher at Brookwood Elementary. This is my 22nd year as a third or fourth grade teacher here at Brookwood.
I was born and raised in Tuscaloosa. Mike and I have been married for almost 40 years. He retired from the Tuscaloosa Fire Department and is self-employed as a general contractor.
We have two grown children who attended Cottondale Elementary and graduated from Holt High School. Chad works at Hunt Refining and has a beautiful wife, Heather, who teaches 4th grade at Vance. They have two precious sons, Liam and Jack, who brighten our day. Stormy is a pharmacist in the emergency department at a hospital. I have two "granddogs"... Chad's Doberman, Ruger, and Stormy's Doberman, Gus. They are spoiled by all of us!
We have lived in Cottondale for 32 years and attend Tuscaloosa's Eastview Church where I am the church clerk and Mike is a trustee.
