I was raised in the Taylorville community and graduated from Hillcrest High School. I attended the University of Alabama and graduated with a BS degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I also received my Masters Degree from the University of Alabama in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I have been trained in the Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI). I attend many different workshops and inservices to further my learning.
I have been teaching in the Tuscaloosa County Schools for the past 21 years. I was a student intern at Maxwell Elementary where I taught Kindergarten and 4th grade. I was hired at Brookwood Elementary to teach 3rd grade. I taught there for four years. I transfered to Englewood Elementary where I taught 3rd grade also. I moved to Taylorville Primary when the school was built and have completed several 1st to 2nd grade looping cycles. I am currently teaching 2nd grade here at Taylorville.
My name is Kim Smelley and I teach 2nd grade at Taylorville Primary. I feel very lucky to have such a wonderful job and a great place to teach. I have always loved children and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them each day. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Chris Smelley, and we have three beautiful children, Sage, Colby, and Avery. I enjoy watching my boys play all sports and Avery taking cheering and taking gymnastics, being with family and friends, shopping at the mall, going to the beach, and reading a good novel. My favorite places to eat are Cypress Inn, Outback, and Taco Casa. I am a Christian and I attend Valley View Baptist Church.
