My name is Stephanie T. Chess. I am the guidance counselor here at Crestmont Elementary. It is my pleasure to welcome you and your child/children to another exciting school year.
First and foremost, it is my responsibility to help your child get the best possible education. A good education includes not only learning to read, write, and math, but also includes learning good social skills. Among other things, learning how to get along with other children, making good decisions, controlling anger, accepting responsibility, and being aware of strengths and weaknesses will enhance your child/children social skills. Many of these skills are taught at home. It is my intent to supplement the learning from home through individual, small group, classroom guidance, and also implementing our Leader In Me Program.
I am also in the building to help students who are facing particular difficulties. Family disruption such as illness, death, or divorce may effect children at school. If your family is experiencing anything out of the ordinary, please let me know. If I am aware of any special problem your child might be facing, I can observe your child and help both you and your child with difficulties that might surface.
One of my major functions is to be of help to parents. If you have a particular concern about your child, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss the matter.
It is important to remember that when school personnel and parents works together, it is a winning combination for children. All children deserve to be winners and together we can achieve this goal.
If I can be of any help to you please, feel free to call me at 205/342-2695 Ext. 3, Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:40 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.. If I am not available, I will return your call as soon as possible.
