Walter W. Davie Professional Biography
Dr. Davie is a life-long resident of Tuscaloosa. He attended the University of Alabama earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary education, educational specialist degree in education administration, and an educational doctoral degree in instructional leadership. He has always had an interest and active engagement in youth programs. His early career was as a professional with the Black Warrior Council, B.S.A. where he worked overseeing resident camping programs and adult training.
Dr. Davie began his career as a teacher at Crestmont Elementary School in January of 1990. Since that time, he has served as an elementary teacher, assistant principal, principal at both the elementary and secondary levels, and director of federal programs. In January of 2012, he was appointed as the Deputy Superintendent for the Tuscaloosa County School System; appointed as the Interim Superintendent on August 31, 2015; and was named the permanent Superintendent on December 14, 2015. Dr. Davie is a member of several professional organizations, to include the Alabama Education Association (AEA), Council of Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS), School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA), and the Education Law Association (ELA).
