My name is Mrs. Elise Hinton and I extend to you and your child my warmest welcome into my class. More importantly, I am THRILLED to be your child’s Special Education Teacher this year! This will be my seventh year working at Brookwood Elementary; however, I have twelve years of experience as a Special Educator.
I was born and raised in Excel, Alabama (Monroe County) and am the oldest of two! I have a younger brother who is also married. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in K-12 Special Education from Auburn University in 2008 (WAR EAGLE!). While at Auburn, I was a member of the Auburn University Marching Band where I played the trumpet. I’m highly qualified in the state of Alabama in the area of Elementary Special Education. Further, I graduated in 2014 with a master's degree in the area of K-6 Special Education from the University of West Alabama. I have experience working with students and adults who have disabilities in the following areas: Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Vision Impairments, Hearing Impairments, Emotional Behavior Disorders, and Other Health Impairments.
My husband, Brian, and I recently celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary. He is a native of Tuscaloosa and works at Shelton State Community College. He is a grounds keeper for the college and works extremely hard! We have a daughter named Mazie who is 7 months old.
For my 1st grade students and parents: We have a great year ahead of us! We’ll be reviewing a lot, learning even more, and of course having tons of fun along the way! First grade is an exciting year filled with new independence and increasing abilities. It is a year where your child will build his/her reading and writing skills, master new math skills, as well as, assuming responsibility and routines. I know that the rest of this year is going to be a fun learning adventure and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for all of us! I believe that first grade is probably the most critical period in your child’s education. It is a pivotal grade in which the foundation for the rest of the primary grades is set.
For my 5th grade students and parents: Fifth Grade is a wonderful time in your life. Your child will experience an incredible amount of growth and have many opportunities for great accomplishments and success throughout the year. We will be working as a team to help ensure your child’s continued development at Brookwood. As a team, we will be working on learning to budget your child’s time, work cooperatively, develop good study habits, and strive to achieve to their highest potential so they will be prepared for Middle School. I believe that Fifth grade is a year of growing into maturity. I hope to make this academic year, an educational as well as a fun-filled year for the students.
My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. This year will be a challenging one for your child as compared to last year. However, I will try to make the lessons more interesting as well as breaking down the topic and building up to the task, so that each child understands as well as enjoys them. I believe in hands-on experiences, learning creatively, and learning through play.
If you would like to meet me to discuss your child’s performance or any other problems that he/she is facing in class, you can feel free to meet me after school hours Tuesday through Thursday, between 3pm and 4 pm. It will be appreciated if you tell me a day before to schedule the meeting. Apart from this, you can also e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss any concerns, you have about your child.
