Hello, my name is Jordan Gilbert and I am a fifth grade teacher here at Walker Elementary School. This is my third year teaching at Walker. I taught fourth grade math my first year and fifth grade last year. I fell in love with Walker during my time as an intern in fourth grade and in kindergarten in the spring of 2016. I love being a part of the faculty and staff at such a wonderful school! The Northside Community reminds me of the small community where I grew up. I grew up in Clay, Alabama (a small town outside of Birmingham) and moved to Tuscaloosa to attend the University of Alabama, where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I just recently married my husband, Tray Gilbert, who also teaches fifth grade at Gordo Elementary School. We have two fur babies. We have a Golden Retriever named Cooper and a Shih Tzu named Sammie. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my dogs, reading, hiking, fishing, and doing anything outdoors. I also love watching Alabama football. Roll Tide!
My goal as a teacher is to create a safe and positive learning environment for my students where they are motivated, inspired, encouraged, and supported daily. I will strive to instill my love for learning in each one of my students and always let them know that I believe in them and what they can become. I am so excited and I know this will be a GREAT year!
