    Attendance Plan Guide

The attendance plan was developed to address (1) students who exhibit behaviors consistent with low levels of student engagement and (2) students who are disengaging from school because they do not perceive their academic courses as worthwhile or engageing.  The plan provides interventions that should be effective in improving student attendance.

    • Create a safe, welcoming school environment that engages students and families, promotes student success and increases academic achievement.
      • Greet parents and students at the first of the school day as they arrive in cars or buses. Principals greet car riders, Asst. Principal greets bus riders.
      • Teachers greet and welcome students as they enter each class period.
      • In order to insure the safety of each student, at the end of each school day, teachers escort their students in an orderly manner to the dismissal area. Principal is at the bus dismissal area,  Principal is located at the car rider area.
    • Reduction in the number of chronic absences, unexcused absences, truancies, tardiness, and excessive check-outs and check-ins.
      • Parents are called and conferences are held by the administrative staff when attendance issues are witnessed; chronic absenteeism, excessive tardies/check-ins/check-outs. Conversations with parents focus on positive methods  on how the school can assist in improving the attendance issues that students are demonstrating.
      • The administrative team reviews the attendance reports on a daily basis through SchoolStatus in order to identify students with attendance issues; such as chronic absences, truancy, excessive check-ins/checkouts.
    • Improve average daily attendance of students and staff.
      • Students receive recognition for perfect attendance after each nine week grading period.
      • Staff are sent birthday cards in order to create a more a more welcoming environment by the Principal.
      • The administrative team provides a tail-gating meal for all staff to demonstrate their appreciation.
      • Improve “school engagement,” resulting in an increase in motivation for regular school attendance, resulting in an improvement in academic outcomes.
      • The school provides an ice-cream social rewards students for their testing participation and for perfect attendance every nine week
      • Each nine week period students are nominated at each grade level and recognized at a school assembly with a guest speaker providing a motivational speech.  The criteria for the students are having;  good grades, good attendance and good behavior for the nine week period.
