Hello! My name is Katie McCary, and I am proud to be a part of the Holt High School community. I was born and raised in Hoover, AL, and I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English as well as an Honors accolade from The University of Alabama, and a Master of Science in Secondary Education (ELA) from Samford University. Prior to teaching at Holt High School, I taught preschool at a small, private institution in Birmingham, AL. I have always felt drawn to the field of education, as the opportunity to be taught by and learn from educators of all different backgrounds with all different sorts of qualifications is a gift that I have been incredibly grateful for my whole life. I believe in the power of literature and its ability to shape young minds, encourage growth, and bridge gaps between students of different backgrounds and their teachers. I strive to make each student feel at home in my classroom, and I hope to encourage collaboration, discussion, and willful participation from each and every student. I am incredibly honored to be an educator, and even more so to be one at Holt High School. When I am not teaching English, I am the head coach of our school’s debate team, and I am the assistant coach for our girls’ soccer team. Outside of school, I love to read, paint, bake, and spend time with my dog, Buggy, and my friends and family. I look forward to working with the Holt community and fostering academic and personal growth in all of our students.
