Message from the Superintendent - Zoning Questions
Recently, we have been made aware that there have been rumors and social media discussion about re-zoning portions of the Northside School zone into the Tuscaloosa County High School zone. There have even been statements that a vote is scheduled on this action as soon as our October 28th Board meeting. To be clear, there have been absolutely no discussions or plans to re-zone the Northside school zone. Re-zoning within a school system is most often done due to over-crowding in one area that could be alleviated by open space in another. Unfortunately, in the Tuscaloosa County School System, most all of our schools are at or exceeding capacity. Re-zoning simply makes no sense whatsoever.
We do appreciate the residents within the Northside zone who have respectfully and appropriately reached out to find out whether or not there was any truth to these rumors and social media posts. While they expressed great concern over any such decision, rather than jumping to grossly negative comments and accusations, they treated us in the same manner they would want to be treated.
To be clear, there are no plans to re-zone the Northside community nor have there been any discussion to even consider such action.
Walter W. Davie, Ed.D.
