Parent Project

Parent Project Now Accepting Applications

 

The Tuscaloosa County School System is currently accepting applications for our TCSS Parent Project. Parent Project is a 10-week workshop, beginning Tuesday, February 26, 2019, offered to parents and families of students within the Tuscaloosa County School System. The purpose of Parent Project is to promote positive parenting strategies and strong family relationships, as a way to help students become successful in all aspects of learning. Parent Project is offered at no cost to participants. Dinner and child care (for children ages three and older) are also provided to participants at no cost. The program meets once each week, on Tuesdays from 5 - 7 p.m., at Echols Middle School in Northport. Families interested in participating in Parent Project should contact their school principal for application information.

Parent Project is divided into two programs:

  • Changing Destructive Adolescent Behavior (CDAB)
  • Loving Solutions

Changing Destructive Adolescent Behavior is for parents of students in grades 6 – 12. CDAB’s goals are to reduce family conflict, reduce juvenile crime and reduce recidivism. Issues addressed in the program include arguing and family conflict, poor school performance, truancy and dropping out of school, media influences, early teen sexuality, teen drug use, youth gangs, teen violence and bullying, and running away from home.

Loving Solutions is for parents of students in kindergarten – 5th grade. This program provides activity-based instruction, cooperative learning norms, behavioral interventions, emotional and practical support, and ADD/ADHD applications.

For Parent Project participants needing child care for a child younger than the age of three, they are encouraged to speak to their Parent Project Instructor. Child care for younger children may be possible.
