For the Remainder of our 2019-2020 School Year

For the Remainder of our 2019-2020 School Year in the current COVID-19 Environment

I hope everyone is doing well during this unprecedent time.  My staff and I have been working closely with our Superintendent through the support of the Governor, Dr. Mackey, the AHSAA and other agencies.  Per the Alabama State Department of Education, all public schools will resume via distance education to continue learning in response to COVID-19 on Monday April 6.  We will continue monitoring the situation and will post updates as we receive them.

Q & A

Here are some answers to some general questions we have received. We will update all stakeholders as we learn more information.

Athletics: All athletics are canceled for the 19/20 school year.  The use of BHS facilities are prohibited.  This includes weight training and any practices. Please click to see the AHSAA Document.

Prom: We are looking into rescheduling prom into May or June and potentially changing the venue back to our school.  This is all contingent on information we receive early in April and the fact that the City of Tuscaloosa has closed all public venues including the Tuscaloosa River Market in response to COVID-19.  We are monitoring the situation and will post updates as we receive them.

Building: BHS facilities are currently CLOSED to the public.

Course Selection:  Students who have not turned in their course selection cards should take a picture of their card and email it to their counselor at crutledge@tcss.net or kpbarnett@tcss.net.

Graduation: We are looking at options for graduation if we are able to conduct high school graduation ceremonies.

Storm Shelters: In the event there is severe weather in our area during this time of school closure, the EMA has advised that normal shelter protocol should be followed.  Storm shelters will open as normal and social distancing maintained inside as best possible.

Community Feeding: Our Child Nutrition Department in conjunction with the Tuscaloosa City School System is currently conducting a child feeding program.
